How we helped a portfolio company of a Private Equity firm to create a monthly board presentation

December 21, 2021

The Context

The client, a portfolio company of a Private Equity firm, wanted the TresVista Team to prepare various financial analyses for their presentation for their monthly board meeting. The board meeting required the client to share an update on the company’s financial performance, which entailed financial statements and supplemental information such as customer sales, inventory, raw material purchases, etc.

The Objective

To perform various financial analyses such as period variances, sales & purchase trends, customer margins, etc., and incorporate them into the monthly board presentation.

The Approach

The TresVista Team followed the following process:

  • Understood the reporting method of the company and conducted extensive discussions with the clients, post which they correlated the different line items and prepared relevant analyses
  • Automated templates that could be updated easily using the raw data provided by the client
  • Conducted various financial analyses over varying time periods such as Month over Month, Year over Year, Year to Date, and Last Twelve Months. Additionally, customer analyses such as Margin, Customer Concentration, Purchase Trends, etc., were also executed, and relevant commentary was provided

The Challenges We Overcame

The major hurdles faced by the TresVista Team were the tight timelines and the unorganized data pull from the client’s ERP, thereby requiring the team to correlate data points across files to create various analyses. The team overcame this issue by creating an automized template that is quick to update.

The Value Add – Catalyzing the Client’s Impact

The TresVista Team built a template for the client that was easy to update each month and tracked metrics in a singular file. The creation of various analyses related to customer buying behavior helped the client provide a better understanding of the business to the board members. The team also helped the client prepare a budget for the entire year and then create a reforecast based on the half-yearly performance of the company.
