How we provided value-add to a Secondaries advisory firm by revamping their reporting templates

March 17, 2023

The Context

The client, a Secondaries advisory firm, used several excel templates for reporting purposes throughout the course of LP-led deals. These old templates had several cross-referencing errors and external links making the files unresponsive while processing large functions and generally cumbersome to use. The TresVista Team took the initiative to revamp these legacy templates (portfolio summary, deal tracker, capital account audits, etc.) used for LP-led deals to make the execution error-prone.

The Objective

To revamp the legacy LP-led excel templates to make them dynamic and less prone to errors.

The Approach

The TresVista Team followed the following process:

  • To account for all data points, the team recreated all excel templates used for LP-led deals. The team further refined them by making them more dynamic and easier to use and read
  • The TresVista Team tested the templates across multiple users and multiple projects to ensure accuracy and precision

The Challenges We Overcame

Due to the complexity of the files and the data flow, the primary hurdle faced by the TresVista Team while executing the task was not to omit any functionality. The team simultaneously coordinated with different stakeholders to check for accuracy and precision.

The Value Add – Catalyzing the Client’s Impact

The TresVista Team initiated the project to recreate each of the excel templates to make them more dynamic and accurate while working on other live deals of the client. The task resulted in a ~50% reduction in the total file size and will save ~1,200 hours over the next twelve months.
